Clark 8/3; "at 8. A. M I arrived at the Junction of the Rochejhone
with the Missouri and formed...Camp...in the point between the two
river[s] [where] the party had ... encamped the 26th of April-1805."
The Yellowstone River exploration ended here. However, Clark planned
reunion with Lewis' party here. Mosquitos were so bad Clark left a
note for Lewis and moved 8 miles down the Missouri to a sandbar, where
wind made it better, and camped near the 7/25/05 site. The map, top
right, shows the general areas of the campsites since the rivers have
shifted a lot. The 1806 sites are my additions. August 5-7 Clark moved
down the Missouri daily until 8/7. A "Hard"rain, then clear
cold weather kept mosquitos away; they stayed until the 11th. On the
8th Sgt. Pryor, Shannon, Hall, and Windsor arrived in buffalo skin
native bull boats-no horses! (see crt 13
for Clark's horse plan). |
