Clark reported 7/31 A.M. that during the night "one gang [of buffalo] Swam the river near our Camp...alarmed me...for fear of their Splitting [the canoes] to pieces." No damage done. Camped 7 miles SW of Glendive MT. I-94 veers SE here(see map, top left). Take MT16 here and follow the Yellowstone NE to Sidney MT. 8/1; Rain and buffalo continued to plague the team. "My Situation...very disagree-able...in an open Canoe wet and [no] possibility of keeping...dry." Buffalo "stops" and weather made a short day of 45 miles. Camped on north side of the Yellowstone a few miles SW of Sidney MT. 8/2; Clark noted an abundance of everything; mosquitos, "islands and Sand and Mud bars...Elk Buffalow and wolves today." Camped across the North Dakota border. 8/3; camped at Yellowstone-Mo junction.
