| Top,
Marias flows toward MO from the northwest. Above, Teton meets Marias
from the left of image. They join the Missouri - Lewis' escape goal. |

| At
the Marias-Missouri 7/28, Lewis' squad recovers caches and heads down
river toward Clark at Yellowstone-Missouri. From 7/28-8/12 each camp
is conveniently near an '05 site- a return to familiar territory. |

| After
the 7/27 morning fight over guns and horses, Lewis headed southeast
toward Teton River. Then on to its confluence with Marias and the
Missouri. He hoped to meet other corps troops there ahead of Blackfoot
warriors. They met the Teton about 5 miles above their 7/17 camp.
Soon after reaching the Teton-Marias-Missouri confluence, by good
luck, the other crew members came down the Missouri! [See lct61-64f
for details of the area and driving directions] Lewis' reunited team
continued down the Missouri to join Clark near Yellowstone's confluence. |
