On October 18th the Corps started the descent of the Columbia River
through Wallula Gap, top left and above. Early the next morning,
Walla Walla Chief Yellept, with a 20 man entourage, arrived in camp
just west of the Walla Walla River confluence. The Captains promised
a longer visit on the return journey (see lct253).
The journals don't mention the Cayuse Sisters, top right, a significant
local native landmark. I followed US HWY 12 across the Walla Walla
River to US HWY 730 west.
