| At
Waitsburg, US HWY 12 loops south through Walla Walla before turning
north to The Tri-Cities: Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland. Walla Walla
is south of the Lewis & Clark Trail; however, there is a display
at the Fort Walla Walla Museum dedicated to the Lewis & Clark
experience. The fort is actually a modern museum featuring local history
and culture. The central theme for the Lewis & Clark Trail is
the complicated translation process between the Captains and local
chiefs. A human size diorama, above, depicts the exchange of gifts.
The painting, top right, shows the same scene. The main participants
are identified by number, right. The Captains also learned of a shortcut
back to the Clearwater River. |
