Clark Return Trail
From 7/6 - 7/9 Sacajawea added to her "guiding" reputation recalling that she had been through this area in her childhood. From Trail Creek, southeast of Gibbons Pass, to Big Hole River, Big Hole Pass, and "a high point of a mountain" as reference points she assured the party they would get to Camp Fortunate; now Clark Canyon Reservoir. Researchers believe this incident and one on 7/13, on the Gallatin River; Clark reported she directed him to take the pass south of one he had chosen (see crt7) are situations where her directions were followed. Clark got to Camp Fortunate 7/8 and opened the cache buried 9/17/05 on the Corps' trek west. Sunken canoes were raised and prepared for the return

trip on Beaverhead River to Three Forks. The canoes carried the articles not necessary for the Yellowstone ; the party continued on foot or horses. 7/10-12: The party passed the Beaverhead landmark "and Encampd. in the Spot we had encamped the 6th of August last" Clark and canoe crew rowed down the Beaverhead while the rest, with the horse herd, trekked on land. They "proceeded on" Jefferson to Three Forks of the Missouri River. To follow the route in reverse of the '05 trip, as Clark's party did; follow this link: (142a-122a).
