MT HWY 278 follows Clark's trek through Big Hole Pass, left.
An antique hay bailer stands in a corral, at historic Hamilton
Ranch, with interpretive panels circling it, bottom center.
Clark
left Ordway and 4 others at the 7/6 camp to continue the search for
the 9 missing horses, and headed southeast (see previous pages for
details). After 21 miles, including a stop at the hot springs, he
arrived at the pass. These information panels explain the historic
background of historic Hamilton Ranch, the surrounding area, and notes
Clark's passage through. His party camped east of Big Hole Pass, not
far from present MT HWY 278.
