The Corps followed the "Forgotten Trail" to the Snake
River; joining the 1805 trail a few miles west of Clarkston, WA
(See lct239a.) Driving details are on
linked page references. Moving up the Snake and Clearwater Rivers,
they camped with Nez Perce acquaintances, from 5/14-6/10/06, before
they could struggle through the Bitteroot Mountain snow and reach
Travelers' Rest (see lct211.)
Arriving at Travelers' Rest July 30, 1806, the Captains began planning
the next phase of the journey. For the first time men were divided
into several parties trekking on different trails.
