The
Forgotten
Trail

The Corps departed Ft. Clatsop March 23, 1806, backtracking up the Columbia River (see lct394.) They traded for horses in the Dalles area, and continued up river by horses. Near the Columbia-Walla Walla confluence, natives pointed out this shortcut. The Corps followed this trail for 100mi; 4/30-5/5/06. This was the only detour from the outbound trail until Travelers' Rest (see lct252b.)
