The
camp was on the northeast side of the Clearwater River. A lumber mill
occupies the site now, top left. This view is from the north side
of the river. A road, running parallel with the river, starts at the
bridge. Road 100, north to the west end of Road 500, (Lolo Motorway)
starts from this road. Lewis wrote: "this was a very eligible
spot for defence it had been an ancient habitation of the indians;
was sunk about 4 feet in the ground and raised arround it's outer
edge about 31/2 feet with a wall of eath...." Bottom right, the
