Lewis & Clark Trail - Montana
Dearborn River Confluence
Top right , roughly the place where the Corps camped on July 17th, 1805 near Mid Canon, Montana (see previous page). The Dearborn River meets the Missouri River three miles above the July 17th camp. The Dearborn River enters the Missouri from under the railroad bridge, top left. It also has to pass under the I-15 bridge before it technically meets the Missouri, left. Captain Lewis described the confluence as the canoes passed on the morning of July 18th, 1805: " It is a handsome, bold and, clear stream...with a rapid current, over a bed of small smooth stones.... we called it Dearborn's river." [Sec of War]
