near Mid Canon, Montana (see previous page). The Dearborn River meets
the Missouri River three miles above the July 17th camp. The Dearborn
River enters the Missouri from under the railroad bridge, top left.
It also has to pass under the I-15 bridge before it technically meets
the Missouri, left. Captain Lewis described the confluence as the
canoes passed on the morning of July 18th, 1805: " It is a handsome,
bold and, clear stream...with a rapid current, over a bed of small
smooth stones.... we called it Dearborn's river." [Sec of War] |
