The
Lewis & Clark Encampment, at the festival, included many displays
and information about the Corps's medicines and arms. Left, Captain
Lewis carried a medicine chest full of concoctions, explained, by
this expert. Dr. Benjamin Rush's pills were in general use as a purgative.
The men called them "Rush's thunderbolts!" Arms were essential
equipment for hunting and defense. Above, a demonstration of a musket.
The troops had 15 1803 muzzle-loading flintlocks, and some 1795 muskets.
Lewis and Clark had long rifles. |
