Native Americans, an important element in the Expedition story, displayed many cultural artifacts at the festival. They explained the artistic symbols and use of many pieces. Their program also included storytelling and dancing. Several plains tribes live in Montana. The Corps saw many abandoned hunting camps, mostly Blackfoot, but didn't meet any Natives in Montana until the Shoshone near Lemhi Pass.
