Clark's
journal has included passages similar to this one for the past several
days. He realized that the terrain was indeed changing. Fields north
of Lexington reveal the change. Extensive flat vistas- now corn fields
- were more frequent. Muddy conditions closed a road I had planned
to take to the June 19 campsite. The June 20 campsite was too far
from the present river to investigate. A campsite now in a farmers
field would be impossible to locate without a sign. A site near the
river is easier to approximate the location. Top right, logs in the
river gave the Corps trouble daily. |
