I
headed east, from Lewis & Clark State Park, toward Onawa, IA.
I proceeded north on I-29 to the Sgt Charles Monument located on a
bluff east of the interstate in Sioux City. From here you look down
on the Missouri, photo at left. Floyd fell ill and died Aug. 20, 1804
just north of this monument. His final interment is under the monolith.
A forensic specialist produced a likeness, above, after studying the
skull. At 150ft, the monument is the largest tribute to any mamber
of the Corps of Discovery. |
