Top
left, our ROW voyageur canoe rests on the bank at Steamboat Rock.
The rock, roughly in the shape of an old Missouri River steamboat,
above, was formed by geologic forces. Ancient seas covered the area
at one time forming sandstone. Later dark colored minerals seeped
into cracks making dikes and stacks. These formations became more
numerous as the continued up the Missouri. Right, one of our smaller
canoes is dwarfed by the cliffs lining the river bank. |
