These photos are from signs erected in the Washington Riverfront Park, right on the south bank of the Missouri River. Top left, A motor boat has an easier time moving up the river past Washington than the L&C expedition did. The river flows in approximately the same channel as the early 1800's, but it's much deeper and wider now.
John Colter, one of the more famous Corps members, settled here after exploring the west, including the Yellowstone area.
The location of his farm and grave site is in dispute according to the Washington Historical Society. As many as five possible grave sites have been mentioned with no conclusive evidence for any of them.
