Lewis & Clark Trail
Washington Missouri
At what Clark called " retrograde bend" the keelboat cleared a sandbar, similar to the one at Washington, above, and turned in the current 3 times before the crew regained control. Wall murals at the Washington Historical Society Museum depict activities of the explorers: A river camp scene, above; Sacagawea and York, right. The museum houses furniture, photos , objects ( corn cob pipes and zithers ), and many other local history collections.
