Top left, a storage room, tucked into the back entrance. Above, a food storage room on the enlisted men's side of the fort. Left, the blacksmith shop ready for work. It's incredible that the Corps carried all this heavy equipment - especially an anvil ! It would come in handy during the winter when the blacksmith fashioned hatchets to trade to Mandan and Hidatsas for corn and squash, seen in the photo, above. Tribal and Corps members hunted for meat together numerous times.
