Visitors
got a close up look at a replica of the white pirogue. It was the
command boat for the expedition. Either Lewis or Clark was aboard
most of the time. Private Richard Warfington was put in charge of
the crew, carefully selected from the enlisted soldiers . Maybe this
role player is Warfington. Experienced French boatmen manned the larger
red pirogue and the keelboat. The other two craft were being repaired
so were not available for the Heritage Days displays. During the summer
of '08 the three replicas were to voyage up the Missouri River. I
don't know if this took place. I was back on the west coast at that
time. |
