The
reenactors show the skills required by soldiers to survive in the
wilderness, like fire starting with a bow. The immaculate tents and
gear were in tatters or destroyed by the time the Corps reached the
Pacific. As busy as the men were, some still found time to get into
trouble in this small town of 400 French Canadians. May 17, 1804:
Clark: "... 3 men Confined for misconduct, I had a Court martial
& punishment...." Still, Clark let some of the men attend
a dance where only Private Collins got into trouble, which led to
his being one of the three soldiers court martialled, cited above.
He received 50 lashes for his transgressions. |
