| Clark,
12-10-1805: "proceeded on through a heavy rain to the Camp of
our intended fort..." 12-16: "The winds violent Trees falling
in every derection, whorl winds, with gusts of rain Hail & Thunder,
this kind of weather lasted all day, Certainly one of the worst days
that ever was!" On Christmas Day, rain curtailed any outside
festivities. Wet weather quickly spoiled the elk and fish meal; but
they ate it anyway. These scenes, on a rainy day in early October,
would have been typical for the Corps for more than half of its days
at Ft Clatsop. |
