Lewis & Clark Trail
Long Beach Washington
The 38 foot, young gray whale skeleton, on the previous page, washed up on the beach some time ago. Being similar to one that Captain Clark mentioned on November 19, 1805, it has been preserved and displayed along the Discovery Trail. Clark's journal entry, top right, is etched on one side of the 9 foot basalt block (see previous page) that stands with a bronze Clark and sturgeon, a few hundred yards north of the Gray Whale Skeleton site, on the Discovery Trail. The trail follows the dunes, close to the shoreline here.
