The
38 foot, young gray whale skeleton, on the previous page, washed up
on the beach some time ago. Being similar to one that Captain Clark
mentioned on November 19, 1805, it has been preserved and displayed
along the Discovery Trail. Clark's journal entry, top right, is etched
on one side of the 9 foot basalt block (see previous page) that stands
with a bronze Clark and sturgeon, a few hundred yards north of the
Gray Whale Skeleton site, on the Discovery Trail. The trail follows
the dunes, close to the shoreline here. |
