The
map emphasizes the addition of land to the cape after the jetties
at the mouth of the Columbia River were built. They control the flow
direction keeping it from eroding the coastline. Several signs throughout
the park remind you that you may have been walking or swimming in
water if you had been on this spot in 1805. The granite post, top
left, marks the trail up to the top of McKenzie Head. The combination
bronze bas-relief and regular sculpture illustrates Clark's Cape Disappointment
trek. It's titled " William Clark at McKenzie Head." |
