black lines represent the roads in and around Cape Disappointment
State Park on the map, above. The red line is the North Head Trail.
If you want to hike to the North Head Lighthouse, this trail will
lead you there. You can also drive closer to it on the loop road -
WA HWY 100. The trail runs close to where Clark made his way north
to the present Long Beach. In 1805 it was a beach trail, now it's
far inland (see page 347). I chose to hike and photograph the current
beach, thinking it was more typical of what Clark's group experienced.
