An
outstanding collection of hand carved dolls stands in a display case
in the last room of the exhibit. Frances Bringloe, of Seattle Washington,
is the artist. She fashioned the figures from Alaskan cedar with swivel
and spring joints. They were designed on a scale of 1 1/2 inches to
a foot, making the human adult dolls 7-10 inches high. Using sources,
including the journals, she used authentic fabrics for the clothing.
She's known for her historical accuracy and has collections in museums
around the country. The figures l-r: Cruzatte, Gass, Cameawait, Sacajawea,
York, Lewis, and Clark. Seaman stands in front of Lewis, and Cruzatte's
dog(?) stand in front of him. |
