Lewis & Clark Trail

Interpretive signs describe the background of the sculptor, above, and the models, top right, involved in the statue's creation. Inside the cultural center are a collection of local Native American busts. Even though the subjects lived later than the L & C Expedition period, they are typical examples of the Mandan and Hidatsa leaders met by them. The man, on the left, is Mandan medicine man Crow Heart (1856-1951). The woman is Jane Sitting Crow aka Corn Stalk Woman, Keeper of Corn - a very powerful position in Mandan society.
Like the SD center, this one, in Bismark, covers all of North Dakota history with interesting artifacts and displays.
