Left, Hidatsa Chief Drags Wolf (1862-1942) His brilliant blue eyes and fair skin, common among the Mandan and Hidatsa, reminds you that at the time of the L & C Expedition there was a myth about "Lost Welsh Tribes." Lewis was instructed to be on the lookout for them. Clark was amazed at how native women could handle a bull boat, above, in rough water and high waves.
