noted on the previous page, there's no way to get close to Pillar
Rock unless you trespass on private property. In October, 2018, the
Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation held its annual meeting
in Astoria Oregon. The program included a short cruise, on the Portland
Spirit past Pillar Rock. These photos are from that trip. Before the
navigation instruments were installed, the top was cut from roughly
100 ft. to 50 ft. The Corps camped here on the north shore of the
Columbia November 7, 1805, and again on the 25th where they crossed
to the south shore. |
