miles west of Lyle. I remained overnight to take advantage of late
and early light. The Corps camped across the river, right, a few miles
east of this overlook on October 28, 1805. Above, and top right, Lewis
and Clark's "Sepulchar Island" at sunset and sunrise. This
view is east of the island, looking west. You look directly north
at the island from the Oregon side rest area (see previous page).
Top left, a solitary fishing boat plies the Columbia hoping for an
early catch. Clark commented on the well crafted native canoes in
this area. |
