After
negotiating the Long Narrows on October 25th, 1805, the Corps pulled
in to shore at the confluence of Mill Creek and the Columbia. The
Captains named the spot "Fort Rock Camp." The interpretive
signs, above, explain the situation - rumors of a possible attack.
I arrived at The Dalles from Doug's Beach State Park via WA HWY 14
west and crossed the Columbia River on US HWY 197 south. Top left,
the view east, up the Columbia, from Fort Rock. Left, looking west,
down the Columbia. There are some doubts about this being the actual
site. |
