Dallesport Washington

On their return trip up the Columbia, the Corps bivouacked at "Fort Rock" camp, where they stayed October 25-27, 1805 on the trip out. Clark and 12 members paddled across the river to this area and camped on April 16,1806. Clark was trying to trade for horses to continue the journey overland. The "Fort Rock" area is across the Columbia, at The Dalles, with Mount Hood in the background; view from Dallesport, above. The Dalles, Dallesport and Mount Hood, left; view from WA HWY 14.
