On their return trip up the Columbia, the Corps bivouacked at "Fort
Rock" camp, where they stayed October 25-27, 1805 on the trip
out. Clark and 12 members paddled across the river to this area
and camped on April 16,1806. Clark was trying to trade for horses
to continue the journey overland. The "Fort Rock" area
is across the Columbia, at The Dalles, with Mount Hood in the background;
