The
Captains visited or were visited daily by local natives along the
Columbia River. It was along this stretch that Clark noted that Sacajawea's
presence put locals more at ease. The Park has a large campground
with several amenities. The Maryhill Museum of Art is next door. It
holds large collections of artifacts from natives of the Columbia
Plateau - objects that the Corps would have seen. They would have
traded for some of the items. I didn't get to see the collection on
this trip. It was too late in the day. |
