Lewis would have been delighted with these scenes of flora and "fauna."
He turned his attention to insects in the spring of 1806 on the Expedition's
return from the Pacific Ocean. On the Columbia River, he wrote:"the
tick has made it's appearance it is the same with those of the Atlantic
States." (Top left). While at Long Camp He had time to record
observations on a multitude of plants and animals. In one journal
entry, he wrote: "most of the insects common to the U' states
are found here. the butterflies, common house and blowing fly...."
