2007 I tried to drive to The Narrows neck of the Big Bend of the Missouri
from Chamberlain. I took I-90 west to Reliance, then north on SD HWY
47, and north on BIA HWY 10 to Lower Brule on the Lower Brule Indian
Reservation. Asking for directions, I was told that the road to The
Narrows was gated and there was no entry. I had no time to go around
to the other side, or hire a boat. In 2010, I drove SD HWY 50 north
from Chamberlain to Ft. Thompson, and 34 west to the West Bend State
Recreation Area. I found a kiosk there presenting information about
the Corps of Discovery and an ancient Native American civilization. |
