The map, top left, shows the dramatic shift of the river confluence
since 1803-04. The Wood River confluence has changed by similar
proportions. The Corps's location at Wood River remains an educated
guess. Center: The Lewis & Clark Confluence Tower stands off
HWY 3 in Hartford IL, north of the visitor center and fort replica.
At 150 ft high it will offer a great view of the Mississippi/ Missouri.
Unfortunately the project ran out of funds and was not open. The
granite tablet, above, explains the departure of the Corps. Left,
a tug pushes up the Mississippi.
