Lewis & Clark Trail
L&C Interpretive Ctr. MO R.
The diversion channel to the Mississippi River, just north of the LC visiter center conveys the atmosphere of the original Wood River confluence, bottom right. The Missouri/Mississippi confluence is northwest on the left. The sign, top left and photo, top right show its location. River traffic on the Mississippi continues - under motor power rather than sail or rowing power. My visit to this spot occurred on May 14, 2008 at 4 P.M. - exactly 204 years after the Corps of Discovery's departure. They left in heavy rain. Although rain clouds were overhead, I photographed in dry weather.
