Indian
Post Office, with its notable cairns, top right and right. It's debatable
how long cairns have been here. Local expert Steve Russell thinks
no cairns were there when the Corps passed: "I am inclined to
believe that rock cairns did not exist at Indian Postoffice until
the Nez Perce War of 1877." Top left, looking in the direction
of Lonesome Cove Camp from Indian Post Office. Private Whitehouse:
"towards evening we descended the mountain down in a lonesome
cove on a creek we Camped in a thicket of Spruce pine & bolsom
fir timber." |
