Since
the Lolo Motorway passes right by Indian Post Office, our group was
able to lunch in comfort with chairs, a table, and large cooler. In
1805, the Corps fared worse. Sgt. Patrick Gass: "proceeded over
the most terrible mountains I ever beheld... The snow fell so thick
, and the day was so dark, that a person could not see to a distance
of 200 yards. In the night and during the day the snow fell about
10 inches deep." Having no other food, they killed a colt for
supper. Top left, guide Bob Clark (foreground) informs us about Indian
Post Office; the group, l to r. Chris England, Chuck Wilson, Malcolm
Vaughan, Andy Kelly, and Pam Murray. Brian Donahue and Lauren Dunn
(LC Adventures assistants) share a cooler seat, above. |
