Neither
Lewis nor Clark mentioned this spot . On September 16, 1805, they
departed Snowbank Camp, slogged 28 miles, through a snowstorm, cutting
north, to a campsite of last resort - Lonesome Cove Camp. Experts
believe their view was obscured and they desperately needed to find
shelter. On their return, in 1806, they followed the same northern
route, passing through Lonesome Cove Camp, and settling down for the
night at Bears Oil and Roots Camp (see previous pages). No journal
entries mention Indian Post Office this time either. |
