Drive about 10 miles down US HWY 12, on the west side of Lolo Pass.
You'll arrive at a peacfull spot filled with giant cedar trees,
a lush undergrowth of ferns, and a bubbling Crooked Fork, flowing
on its north side. Historian Bernard DeVoto loved to spend time
here working on one of his many historical works about western history.
He focused on the westward push across the North American continent
including a one volume edition of the Lewis and Clark journals.
Devoto's 1953 version was a brief attempt to continue updating the
material started by Nicholas Biddle in 1814, continued by Reuben
Thwaites in 1905, and currently updated by Gary Moulton in 2001.
