Gibbonsville Idaho
Beyond the town of North Fork, the Expedition continued north up the North Fork Salmon River. US HWY 93 continues north, joining the Lewis and Clark route several miles north of North Fork. On September 2, they set up camp on the Salmon River northwest of Gibbonsville. This interpretive sign on HWY 93 stands in the vicinity of the campsite. The terrain looks similar to what Captain Clark described, right. Sergeant John Ordway added: "we call this place dismal Swamp..." after a similar "dismal" place in the Virginia - North Carolina area.
