These
are examples of typical Shoshone tepees. The Corps didn't get to see
this type of habitation while visiting Cameahwait's village. As mentioned
earlier, an enemy attack had destroyed all of the tepees. In the early
1800's Native Americans were using animal skins as covering, especially
buffalo hides in the plains. The AGAI DIKA [Lemhi Shoshone] crossed
the Continental Divide to hunt bison in what is now Montana. Canvas
coverings came later with the US Army. |
