Lewis & Clark Trail

After presenting the woman and girl, who remained seated after the others had fled, with gifts; Lewis wrote, "...I now painted their tawny cheeks with some vermillion which with this nation is emblematic of peace." Lewis made some of his longest journal entries while visiting the Shoshones here. The big red dot on the map represents the interpretive kiosk. The red lines represent the Lewis & Clark Backcountry Byway. They lead to Lehmi Pass.
