Animal skeletons were a familiar sight for pioneer parties. These bones lie between Bidwell and Silver Zone passes, near Leppy Reservoir. Looking north, right, Pilot Peak is in the background. The trail runs right to left, heading west toward Silver Zone Pass. There are no trail markers here. We hiked west to this point. The train, above, is heading northwest on the south side of I-80. Once over Silver Zone Pass, it'll loop southwest. We followed the tracks and trail, under I-80. On the south side, another train, is heading east, above right. It's evident that the railroad follows Hastings Cutoff through here.
