Creek flows north, meeting the South Fork Humboldt River, and commingled,
joins the main Humboldt River south of I- 80. Our team had to hike
well away from the creek, "owing to water" as James Reed
put it; swampland. Reed: "Tus 22 [Sept. 1846] Made this day nearly
due North in Sinking Creek Valy about 10 miles owing to water."
"Wed 23 Made this day owing to water about Twelve 12 miles Still
in Sinking Creek Valley[.]" So in September they had the same
swamp problems as we had in May. |
