Expedition leader, Lee Bergthold, examines huge tires
placed along Huntington Creek for erosion control, south of Sadler
Ranch, left. Endless sagebrush crowds HCO as it continues north,
above. To the northwest, clouds reflect shadows onto the Diamond
Hills, top left. This plaque, attached to the usual railroad track
section, above, stands at the junction of the Railroad Pass road,
going west, and County Highway 719 headed north past Sadler Ranch.
Railroad Pass cuts through a saddle between the Diamond Mountains
and the Diamond Hills. James Mathers passed through this area 21
days before the Donner-Reed Party was in the vicinity; September
23, 1846. We trekked through here May 23, 2006; day 18.
