Our Hastings Cutoff trekking team turned west at the Huntington/Smith Creeks' confluence May 27, 2006. We met the main Humboldt River and the California Trail at Gravelly Ford, Beowawe, and Battle Mountain; the end of our trek.
I returned to the Huntington/Smith Creek confluence to document the last segment of HCO. An old homestead sits a few miles north of the creeks' confluence, on County Highway 715A. This gravel road follows HCO to South Fork Reservoir.
