After leaving our Huntington Creek "skull camp," we had
to return to the dirt road. The creek turned east through fenced
and cross fenced land. HCO follows the creek here; but it was on
private land which we didn't have permission to enter. In places
where we did have permission, negotiating the myriad of cross fences
would have been too time consuming. We were never far from the trail,
This old ranch house is part of Circle L Ranch. If original ranch
houses aren't still inhabited, they serve as outbuildings. The corral
and cattle chute, middle right, are fairly recent constructions.
As emigrants marched north on the west side of the Ruby Mountains
they took notice of the abundance of arable land and water.
