Huntington Valley

After leaving our Huntington Creek "skull camp," we had to return to the dirt road. The creek turned east through fenced and cross fenced land. HCO follows the creek here; but it was on private land which we didn't have permission to enter. In places where we did have permission, negotiating the myriad of cross fences would have been too time consuming. We were never far from the trail, This old ranch house is part of Circle L Ranch. If original ranch houses aren't still inhabited, they serve as outbuildings. The corral and cattle chute, middle right, are fairly recent constructions. As emigrants marched north on the west side of the Ruby Mountains they took notice of the abundance of arable land and water.
