The
trail over Bidwell Pass is well marked with carsonite posts and the
Nevada Trails West's trademark railroad segment. The rail marker,
right, has a plaque with the place name and a journal quote appropriate
to the area. This quote is from James John, a member of the Bidwell-Bartleson
wagon train. The quote is the last sentence of the full quote on the
previous page. Pilot Peak, to the north, provides the background for
the Bidwell Pass markers, middle right. The white markers and the
rail segments were with us on our trek of the Hastings Cutoff from
Hall Spring to the cutoff's junction with the regular California Trail,
west of Elko Nevada. |
